Out Of Order
11.24.2008
Saturday night, we celebrated 8 years - as of today, internet! - of togethery insanity by going to dinner.
And you know how spontaneous parents-of-multiples can be, right? Well only seven whole days before this, we arranged for childcare for 6:30pm-10:00pm. And then, two days ago, I contacted a night-nanny to stay so we could sleep past 5:30 a.m. We've exchanged several gifts over the years- vacations, jewelry, homemade cards - but nothing compared to sleeping until 7:45 a.m.
We likely would not have gone the night-nanny route had we two or more nights without ANY sleep this week due to ear infections # 4 & 5 for Mateo and # 2 and crackly lungs for Harper. Which, by the way, all those years of playing Operation as a kid? Not to be a surgeon, nope. But to prepare you for futile attempts at giving breathing treatments to a seven month old, an age where you cannot bribe, cannot offer chocolate, cannot convince the ducky face mask is something cute to play with.

Monday, November 17. M mid-cough. H with rosy fever cheeks of 102.7.
Now for all the days of their life minus the first six weeks, we have had a bath, bottle, and bed routine. Since they started solids, it has been a dinner, bath, bottle, and bed routine. It is not routine, however, for Mateo to throw up all over himself at 4:30 in the afternoon. So Matou made the executive decision to go ahead and bathe him. And since he was squeaky clean and happy now, we figured go ahead and bathe Harper, too. That way, we could play with them while we got dressed before the sitter arrived, and then when they got fussy,we could hand them over give them a bottle and put them down to sleep just before we left.
And just in case you missed it, let me repeat: we gave them baths BEFORE dinner time.
Though it made post-bath time less frantic on the RJBs, it REALLY threw Harper off. So much so that she didn't make it through dinner. Now we know how very strong the bath is a cue for bedtime.

Oh the cuteness!
So adorable....
They are so cute! Doesn't seem like he was too phased by the bath time switch!
I have to ask...who plays the piano? I noticed it in the background of the video!
Soooo cute. :)
OMG! How cute!
I am the piano-player. Jennifer found me this gorgeous baby grand for a steal several years ago. Though I don't get to it as much anymore, I have been playing on-and-off since I was 4. I had formal lessons from 4 1/2 - 13 at which time I slapped my piano teacher's hands after she kept flicking my palms to get me to have the correct hand posture. Oh, and the times I skipped classes to go to soccer practice instead. So take off a year for that. I play, I write music, I'm VERY private about it. It's my deepest meditation.
