Twenty Seven Month Newlsetter
07.24.2010 When I was still pregnant with you, I would daydream about all the things you might do, all the things we might do together. It’s only the beginning, yes. After all, you are only twenty seven months old.
To me, nothing seems to force time into the finite than watching you develop into the people you are becoming. Life seems to be rushing past, our experiences caught up in the swirling breeze, the leaves, our memories rushing up and up, long enough for me to recapture the feelings I had at that very moment, before being carried away briskly and in unpredictable directions. These are the moments captured in your twenty sixth month:
Even the water dances with you, carried by your laughter...
...and the paint moves where you beckon.
Restaurants become overrun with family, like here when we celebrated Father’s Day breakfast with mommy's side of the family at Fajita Taco Place.
Though it took me thirty-six years to get around to it, you went to your first Pride Festival on a hot summer day.
Nails were painted for the first time ever, by a dear friend Anu who visited from Alabama.
We celebrated fourth of July weekend with Matou’s side of the family and reveled in all the cousinry...
...where you also ate homemade ice cream…
...and walked around in big ‘ol rain boots…
Later, you burned your first sparklers. On the fifth of July.
I flossed green stuff out of your teeth that I thought was spinach, but turned out to be grass.
Twice a week, we took trips to and from school and talked about buildings and vehicles and colors and sang songs.
Each time it rains (and we’ve had a lot of it this month), Matou takes you hunting in our back yard for roly poly’s and snails.
At the Houston Zoo, you came face to face with dinosaurs...
...and called out to giraffe's
We even rode a train around Hermann Park, Mateo absorbing the full effect of riding on a “Thomas” train.
...and when it got hot, you cooled off at the splash pad. (And Mommy and Matou were smart enough to bring towels and dry clothes. This time.)
This is the first summer that two-a-day naps don't bar us from big activities, and we've definitely taken advantage. Surely, next year when your once-a-day nap has disappeared, we'll miss it. But for now, we are enjoying the time we have together. We love you so much.
Love,
Mommy and Matou

Lovely lovely post.
(We still do a two hour quiet time where the boys do not nap but everyone gets some down time!)
It is amazing to see how Mateo and Harper have grown. They are looking older and more beautiful than ever. Seriously. Gorgeous kids, with spirit and smarts to match, I'm sure.
As always, beautifully written. Hope you are doing well Rach!
Love ya!
Thanks, @LilFen and @Lisa! And yes, @LauraC, sometimes quiet time in separate rooms is all we need to recalibrate!
God, I love your blog. Your posts and photos are so touching. What beyoootiful kids Harper and Mateo are. And the Houston Zoo looks fab!!
