Denim: A Wardrobe Workhorse (GAP Review & Giveaway!)

Let’s face it, toddlers are busy. Especially twin toddlers. And with such an active lifestyle, their clothing can take a serious beating. Which is why we are pretty deliberate about the clothing we buy, and why we also build their wardrobes around a handful of core, quality pieces.
For us, it is important that those core pieces possess versatility and compatibility, durability, and when possible, longevity.
Translation: denim.Long before I had the opportunity to review denim products for the GAP, we were buying our denim (and quite a few tops and outerwear) from there. Why? Because it fits all our core requirements.
Versatility. Denim goes well with, well…everything, every color, print, material, or season: Our daughter can often be found wearing a denim skirt with any number of cute tops, both stylish and cool in the heat of a Texas summer. In the cooler months, we just put leggings underneath so she can still wear her “princess.” Back in December, for our holiday greeting card, we dressed down our son’s white button-down shirt and sports coat with, you got it, a pair of jeans. And nearly all our family photos? In jeans.
Compatibility. In the early spring, our son donned a micro-plaid shirt with denim overalls for the rodeo and a cowboy-themed birthday party. And when the GAP dress no longer fit our daughter as intended, we extended its use by wearing it as a top and putting jeans on underneath. That means that at 28 months old, she’s been able to use that size 18-24 months dress almost a year. Which is like forever in toddler years.
Durability.I cannot tell you how many skinned knees have been averted thanks to the super-material that is denim. Nothing handles the tumbles, spills, stains, concrete, dirt, and active play of toddlers like denim can. In fact, I’ve found we’re at greater risk of them outgrowing the clothing long before their denim duds are too worn to wear. Which brings me to longevity.
Longevity. Two words: adjustable waists. I love that toddler GAP jeans almost always have adjustable waists. Talk about long-lasting. I mean, for the most part, we can buy the right size or a size bigger, roll up the pant leg, and get a whole year's worth out of them. And for the infant-to-toddler age group, that is money very well spent.
Speaking of well-spent money, how would you like to win a $100 gift card to the GAP, courtesy of GAP and BlogHer!? You can enter to win three ways ( two available comments/entries per person!): (1) leave me a comment telling me what you'd buy and for whom you'd buy it, (2) share this post via Twitter or Facebook, leaving the direct url as a comment, or (3) blog about this post, leaving the direct url as a comment. I love Gap denim. I usually buy Old Navy for the kids because they fit skinny on my skinny kids, but all of mine is GAP! I'd love to have $100 free to spend on them at Gap kids, though. Their fall stuff is so cute!
I normally buy jeans for the kids where ever there is a sale-Old Navy, Gap and other places. I am trying to lose those last 10 pounds of baby #3 baby weight and need to buy more jeans for myself (ME!) at the Gap, so i can stop wearing the big jeans I have worn for the past 2 years. I would love to have this gift card to take with me to the the denim SALE at the Gap.
I would buy a pair of jeans for myself - I've lost weight and have NOTHING to wear! And I'd buy pants for my boys, because now that it's fall, I realized we only one four pair of pants total for the two of them. That will last us one day if they play outside :)
You take amazing pictures, btw!
I love Gap clothes for my girls! They are so long lasting and they hold up so well. I just bought my girls the mini skinny jeans, so I would get the boot cut dark wash jeans for them.
I would get a whole gap outfit for my almost 3 year old daughter. I used to dress my older one in gap and LOVED it. Now since we moved to Germany there isn't really a chance to do that (other than having family visit us). So, PICK ME ;) and don't worry about the shipping, we'll figure something out.
How old is Mateo again?? He looks 5 in the picutre above.
I'd get a nice pair of jeans for each of my 3 kids (Heidi 6, Sabrina 21m, Conrad 21m) that fits them right for the fall/winter season! My older daughter is tall & trim and I have eyed gap jeans for her just haven't tried them. And the twins each have a lot of hand me downs but some are not the right size for that season and I'm sure we'd get a lot of wear out of the adjustable waist jeans for them. Great photos!!!
Gap Denim is definitely long lasting, for kids and adults. I still wear my favorite gap curvy jeans from 5 years ago! If I won the gift card, I would get jeans for our 2 year old twin girls, adjustable waist for sure.
I would use the gift card to buy more jeans for Alex because he blows through the knees of jeans like NO ONE'S BUSINESS:

Oh who am I kidding? Shopping spree for mama!!
We love GAP jeans and everything else! I have two boys, Calvin and Oliver. I buy them their winter jackets there each year or every other year (because they last so long) and JEans!!! I would for sure buy my 2.5 year old Oliver a pair of new jeans because they look so good and last so long! I would also splurge on a pair for myself as well!! Just love your blog and your kids are adorable!
I'm kind of obsessed with Gap stuff for my 14 month old twins, Leah and Elliot. Suddenly it's fall and they don't fit into any of their colder weather clothing from last year, so I would use $100 to create a fall wardrobe for them. I'm in love with their preppy stripey boys tops for this fall especially. I just bought some jeans for myself there, by the way, and they rock. Love the ankle length for shorties such as myself.
Are you serious? Adjustable waists? I'm so excited! How do they work? Are they velcro or snaps or what? It's so hard to find jeans that fit a tall slim kid!
I would buy denim capris and skirts for my girls for the upcoming Brazilian summer!
I would buy jeans for my own boy girl twins (10 months old-I read your blog to see what is coming) and a pair for myself. Nothing fits anymore!!
I would buy my 23 month old twins skinny jeans or boyfriend jeans.
https://twitter.com/jannaholm I tweeted about the contest! :)
I'm so excited that you blogged about this. We are currently awaiting our 1st child (girl) in December. Her closet is already full of Gap clothes. I think 100 gift card would go along way seeing as we have yet to purchase 0-3 month clothes for her. We started with next summer's clothes since that is what was out when we found out the gender! Thanks for sharing!!
I'd buy jeans and sweaters for my adorable 9-month-old son - love the Baby Gap!
I would love to get the Straight jeans (painted light wash) and the V-neck sweater in charcoal heather for my oldest boy. (that way I can pass them down to my younger ones as they grow) Thank you for the opportunity!

I'd get my girls some cute GAP dresses. Gotta love their clothes and style! Makes them still look like kids and not teenagers.
Clothes for me. My current denim shorts have rhinestones on the butt.
I've never shopped for my kids at Gap, but we get hand-me-downs from the cousins from there. That usually means they been through two boys before our son, and then they're sent back for the youngest cousin. Yea for adjustable waist bands!!! I could use some post pregnancy weight loss clothing for my wardrobe too!
jean jackets... they are still cool, right? Or cool again at least? And they never go on sale!
love, Love LOVE gap denim! we also heart your blog- and, low-and-behold, we are expecting twins in mid-march... soooo, a gap gift card would be mighty handy with our almost-nineteen-month old and the little ones on the way :-)
